What you can learn from my PLN Quiz #2 (June 18)

Part of the series: My Personal Learning Network

Congratulations!

Anne Hodgson

Arjana Blazic

Janet Bianchini

Leahn Stanhope

These four teachers answered all of the questions correctly on the June 13th PLN quiz, and will soon be receiving their Kit Kat and Pucca care packages :-)

(Why only four winners in the 5-5-5 quiz? Because they were the only quiz takers who answered all five questions correctly.)

Now, for the next quiz. If you want to read about the motivation behind these PLN quizzes, go here. (PLN stands for Personal Learning Network. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, read “What is a PLN, anyway?”)

Tips: Read the posts before you take the quiz. The main point here is to direct you to some excellent reading. You’ll also do better on the quiz. If you don’t like your initial score, you can take the quiz again. Again, the main point is learning, not grading.

As with the previous quiz, at the end of five days,  I will draw five names from the pool of quiz takers who answer all five questions correctly. This time, the five “winners” will receive a package consisting of Frambroise Kit Kats and Tanabata Koala March cookies. The Kit Kats are limited edition rasberry and chocolate flavor, and the Koala March cookies are a special release for the Tanabata festival in July (the koala bears are wearing their summer kimono). Of course, if you’re in Japan I’ll be happy to substitute an “American” prize, and if you don’t care for sweets at all, I’ll substitute a non-food prize :-)

Good luck and have fun!

The deadline to be eligible for the drawing is 11 pm on Wednesday, June 23rd, in Japan. That’s 2 pm GMT time. For other times, check here.

This 5-5-5 quiz is based on the following five posts:

How to Integrate Blogging in EFL Teaching by Christina Markoulaki

Do It Your Way by Janet Bianchini

Without Reflection We May Be Planning to Stand Still by Jason Renshaw

EFL Teacher’s Kit for Surviving Kids by Shelly Sanchez Terrell

Thanks, Barb, for helping us to grow as teachers. You’ve done an amazing job in the creation of this quiz. It was great! I couldn’t participate the first time you did it but now I’ve participated and I’ve learned a lot. Your choice of blogs to read is insightful. Your idea of creating this quizzes so that we read experienced educators’ blogs is original.
    Regards,
    Marisa

    1. Barbara says:

Thanks, Marisa! I appreciate your endorsement :-)

It seemed like a good excuse for me to prowl through both blog archives and discount stores–I’m glad others have found it enjoyable, and educational, too!

  3. Hi Barbara,

I just want to say that this PLN Quiz idea is a superb initiative, and I’m deeply deeply honored to have an article from my blog featured in it!

Thank you, and keep up the sterling work.

    Your fan,

    – Jason

    1. Barbara says:

Thanks for the kind words, Jason. They mean a lot to me.

I had great fun going through your archives, trying to decide which of your many wonderful posts to use for the quiz.

The first chocolates ship out tomorrow, and I’m already working on the next quiz. So glad folks are enjoying these!

  4. Thanks for including the article I have written for the Teaching Village in the suggested reading list, Barbara! I will take the quiz pretty soon to try to win the ‘sweet’ prize! :)

    1. Barbara says:

Your article had a lot of great information for teachers–hopefully this will give those who might have missed it the first time around another chance to learn from you :-)

Good luck whenever you get around to taking the quiz! (the next one will be up Wednesday night when this one is finished.

  5. Anne Hodgson says:

Thank you once again for a good challenge. It reminds me how much there is to do, from Jason’s ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ reflection, to figuring out just how to integrate the technical tasks into the larger context the way Shelly and Christina do. When anxiety strikes, I’ll gratefully remember Janet’s great mantra, do it your way. Thanks so much for including me in this!
