Thanks, Barbara, for the opportunity you've given me of sharing my viewpoint and reflections with your readers.

Thanks for your valuable comment, which means a lot to me, especially as it comes from an experienced educator and material writer.

I do recommend you should watch the film and if you can watch the 3D version, you'll enjoy it much more.
Regards,
Marisa

I watched that movie with my 10 y/o a few weeks ago, and loved it! Wonderful comparisons between teachers/trainers... I didn't even stop to think about the connections to teaching, but you are absolutely right. Having an open mind, lots of patience, and the willingness to try and try again in the face of adverse conditions are charasteristics similar to those of passionate and caring teachers. Thanks for opening my eyes!

I love the parallel you make between training a dragon and teaching teens! The image of enticing them into behavior that helps them be part of a community, while not destroying their uniqueness--this is a goal for all teachers!

Learning to learn from our students is so important. Without that attitude, it's mighty hard to create an environment of mutual respect. And as you point out, mutual respect leads to feeling at ease, and students who feel at ease are often more effective learners.

Thanks, Marisa. I look forward to having a chance to see this movie!
